Why visit Andorra
A mountain principality open all year round
Travelling to Andorra means a Pyrenean country wedged between Spain and France, with one UNESCO site, large ski areas and Romanesque heritage scattered across its villages.
Two co-princes, a system found nowhere else
Under the charter of 1278 sovereignty is shared between the Bishop of Urgell and, today, the President of France: a parliamentary co-principality with no equivalent.
Skiing on a large scale
Grandvalira and Vallnord together offer over 175 km of slopes, from Pas de la Casa to Ordino-Arcalís via Soldeu and Pal-Arinsal.
A glacial valley on the UNESCO list
The Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, inscribed in 2004, covers about 9% of the country and takes several days to walk.
Thermal spa and Romanesque art
The Caldea spa in Escaldes-Engordany on one side, medieval Romanesque churches and chapels from the 9th to 14th centuries on the other.
Parishes and mountains
Andorra la Vella, Ordino, Arinsal: where to go
The country has seven parishes, all close together. Here are the anchors for planning a stay.
La Seu d'Urgell, the gateway. Arriving at LEU you land in Catalonia first. La Seu d'Urgell sits at 691 m and is the seat of the diocese whose bishop is a co-prince of Andorra. Its Romanesque cathedral of Santa Maria and cloister appear in our photos, and the market runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The N-145 road leads from the town into Andorra.

Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany. The capital, at 1,023 m, is the highest in Europe. People come for the shops and for the Caldea thermal spa in Escaldes-Engordany, set against a mountain backdrop.

Ordino and the Sorteny Valley. Ordino in the north has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 2020 and is home to the Sorteny Valley natural park. It is also a good base for the Ordino-Arcalís slopes.

Arinsal and Coma Pedrosa. From Arinsal, in the parish of La Massana, the hike to Coma Pedrosa leads to the highest point in the country at about 2,940 m: a demanding but technically straightforward climb, passing several mountain lakes.

Culture and relaxation
Romanesque art, thermal baths and nature: a country for every season
Romanesque art flourished in Andorra from the 9th to the 14th century and many churches and chapels still stand; the tourist board highlights this heritage today. Several museums round off a visit: Casa Rull in Sispony, the Farga Rossell in La Massana and the Andorra Romànica centre in Pal. In July the Escaldes-Engordany International Jazz Festival fills the programme. Winter is for the slopes, summer for walking in the valleys.
Getting around
No airport or railway inside the country: plan for the road
Andorra has neither a commercial airport nor a railway. From La Seu d'Urgell Airport the N-145 road leads into the principality, about 12 km from the border; connections from Barcelona-El Prat (186 km) or Toulouse-Blagnac (237 km) are by road. Once there, buses link Andorra la Vella with the other parishes, with night services at weekends. To extend your trip, Spain and France are a few kilometres away.
Before you go
A high-mountain climate with sharply marked seasons
